But, but...how do they strike fear into the hearts of criminals? I mean, the bowler hats should at least have spikes on them. And the umbrella should have a concealed blade, or wand (like Hagrid).

@poodle_doodle Until the late 20th century, by being bigger. (UK police forces had minimum height restrictions on recruits that that were above the average height for the day. Which they then topped off, for "beat bobbies", with the iconic, tall helmet. Let me tell you, those guys LOOMED.)

I much prefer the way the British police look and work to the way the American police do.
